Among our recent acquisitions and sales, Arman is certainly a name that at very different levels keeps the attention of the public of great contemporary art ever more fervent: his artistic reflection today is absolutely actual and present even at an aesthetic level.

Arman considers objects as being part of the same identity between material and reality; this is why it does not act on objects to take possession of them and change their nature, but exploits them as raw material to which he relates, contaminating it with transversal aims and poisoning its historical belonging.

The art of Arman therefore completely loses the classical mimetic purpose, starting from the presence of reality itself to highlight its total absence and intrinsic detachment, in an existential oxymoron of distressing showiness. The artwork is therefore his enduring device to govern complexity as a multitude through the creation of a linguistic method capable of putting the individual in communication with society.

Hence the use of objects in his characteristic Accumulations, with the re-establishment of the entity of the single object through its obsessive repetition into a single volume, an independent shape that echoes its essence, as the collective consciousness that defines that same object.

When does a "selfie" become a piece of art? This widespread tendency to self-retreat becomes for Richard Prince the new panorama of his artistic analysis, thus he created his latest series of artworks: New Portraits.

Richard Prince summarizes in himself the most recent and elaborate stage of the use of the readymade, which basically represents the striking manifestation of the transition that art has matured from being practical skill to pure idea, developing beauty like conceptual pregnancy without detaching itself from traditional aesthetics and maintaining the fixed point of the classical conception of interpretation and copying.

Prince focuses uncomfortably on the social attitude that superficially justifies the production of this type of photographs, thus putting in crisis those assumptions that support the use of their person as an object-goods and the social resonance that derives from it as an indispensable judgment. . Moreover, through the inferences, the artist reveals the characteristics that point out the condition of thought that underlies the creative process of the self-portrait “selfie”, thus giving rise to a broader reflection on the concept of the value of the individual.

This Tuesday Artvalor’s studios hosted the exceptional vernissage of Panta Rei, the series created by the photographers Marina Drì and Maurizio Valdemarin. To date, the showroom has over thirty-two photographs of art, printed on different supports and different sizes, which dot the spaces like gates to a surreal world.

Some works have been kindly exhibited by private collectors, many others have been acquired by Artvalor in the perspective of the exponential success that the two artists are already enjoying with their work. Luca Cinquetti, responsible for the acquisition of the works of the two artists, now internationally renowned, has selected their project as one of the most valid proposals in the younger panorama of the art market.

The works in fact date all within the last decade, but the thought that makes up their heart is universal and timeless: it comes directly from the Heraclitean thought, which in the contemporary era we are very sensitive to, considering the trouble and the frenetic pace imposed by our lifestyle: Panta Rei is a hymn to the value of every single moment, given by its total uniqueness throughout history, which is nothing but the inexorable change of its sensitive bodies.
Maurizio and Marina have made this concept “figure” creating beautiful events that are totally unpredictable, as well as unreproducible: the colors that dance on their lenses are tautologically linked to the artistic experience and equally strongly related to the idea of the water that draws the same thought of Heraclitus, but pushing these perspectives intertwined towards a horizon that undermines the figurative coordinates within which we mechanically place the same concepts.

Hockney’s whole tension towards the sensitive experience of reality makes him a total explorer, who, thanks to the fast development of the flow of currents and trends from 1960 to today, unties from temporal and technological coordinates in favor of a radiant and immediate freedom.

In the 1972 monumental painting “Portrait of an artist”, the composition came from the overlapping of two distinct photographs and immediately became a starting point for a painting where two figures of men face each other from two opposing statuses.
Hockney recalls the painting of this canvas as a splendid, extraordinarily intense experience; the refinement and attention with which he treats every facet of the artwork is palpable.

In short, an intense work of art at every level, absolutely the most awaited in Christie’s auction.

The lot number 9 in fact started from a price of “only” 18 million dollars, offered ‘without reserve’; unusual choice for a piece of this value, but that turned out to be a winning move considering that in about ten minutes of febrile raises, the price closed at 90.3 million dollars, beating the record price for a living artist reached in 2013 by Jeff Koons with his sculpture Baloon Dog (Orange). The maximum price reached by a Hockey painting before was $ 28.5 million for “Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Monica”, auctioned by Sotheby’s in May this year.

A selection of #erotic works by #klimt , #schiele , and #picasso, from the The Met's #scofieldthayercollection are taking stage this summer at #metbreuer.
Thayer was a contradictory aesthete at his time, a millionaire from very wealthy family and pioneering magazine publisher with a voracious eye for erotic art.Thayer lived in #vienna as a patient of Sigmund #freud , discovering artists utterly unfamiliar to Americans, as the so-called Paris School and Secessionist ones.
It’s the first time that this amazing group of erotic and evocative #watercolors, #drawing, and prints are exhibited together, taking part of a worldwide celebration of the 100th anniversary of the deaths of Klimt and Schiele. Female #nudes are the main central “obsessive” focus of these works, celebrating the so cooled “fame fatale” woman, who attract men eye, but can be also dangerous for their mysterious #charm. Klimt, had a particular affinity for the female nude,exploring the decorative forms of their body by exaggerating there contortion in erotic postures, also while “pleasuring themselves” . His pupil, Schiele, made even more explicitly erotic and provocative. Picasso, too, shared their love for the female nudes, celebrating it more close to #classicalstatuary canons. ———————————————————————- The 200-year-old #brazilianmuseum got on fire, devastating its collection with 20miilions of artifacts severely damaged. It was home to one of the major vast collection of ancient artifacts from South America and around the world. Firefighters are now still working to extinguish it, but cause of the fire is has yet to be determined yet. The museum had been underfunded for years, struggling to keep on its activity but eventually fallen into disrepair. Luiz Duarte, the museum vice-president, referred they had recently made a deal with the government’s development bank, a portion of which was due after presidential election this October
